About Lawrence
Lawrence Edward Stevens II was born and raised in Orange County, California. He launched his career with a premier event management company in Auckland, New Zealand. This profound summer internship involved coordinating efforts to produce the Kiwi Day Out Farewell Festival event to celebrate New Zealand's first time hosting the Rugby World Cup. The event brief can be found here for reference. The experience proved invaluable as it paved the road for Lawrence's program management career over the course of a decade.
In 2013, Lawrence relocated from California to New York City to commence his inaugural full-time position as an account coordinator for an entertainment public relations firm. New York City, renowned for its challenging environment, served as the backdrop for Lawrence's unwavering commitment to conquering obstacles and emerging victorious. In the subsequent year, he embarked on a fresh career path, taking on a new role as a event marketing specialist for a real estate investment firm in the heart of Manhattan. This position propelled his professional growth as he undertook responsibilities encompassing the creation of marketing collateral and leadership in on-site events alongside a dedicated team. Executing these events rekindled the passion Lawrence initially experienced during his time in New Zealand.
Lawrence returned to sunny California and transitioned into a remote technical product management role for a Utah-based startup SaaS (software as a service) company that had previously collaborated with the New York firm. Although entering the tech sector initially felt foreign, Lawrence seamlessly adapted, overseeing the planning and execution of 67 events over three years. His clientele included notable names such as Johnson & Johnson, CBRE, American Diabetes Association, and Kaiser Permanente. Lawrence's technical project management journey continued with a more established SaaS company headquartered in NYC, specializing in customized event apps designed to engage audiences via iPads and attendees' personal devices. Among his clientele were renowned organizations such as Morgan Stanley, UBS, Invesco, and Janus Henderson.
As the pandemic swept across the globe, Lawrence elevated his career by assuming an in-house role as a event manager for a San Diego-based software company. He was later promoted to senior event manager. This opportunity provided him with invaluable experience in project managing live virtual events throughout 2020, where he innovatively engaged both the company's clients and vendor partners. From 2021 to 2023, the flagship Client Conference transitioned to a hybrid model, affording Lawrence increased responsibilities in managing an event coordinator, and coordinating all on-site logistics, including registration, presentations, and exhibitors. The virtual component featured live-streamed presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, polling, and virtual booths facilitating attendee-exhibitor networking. Furthermore, Lawrence spearheaded the coordination of closing receptions at iconic venues such as the House of Blues and the USS Midway Museum. Beyond the confines of the Client Conference, Lawrence dedicated his efforts to boosting company morale through creative and enjoyable employee gatherings. In 2023, two of these events were hosted at Kettner Exchange and the Music Box, prominent venues in the vibrant Little Italy district of San Diego.
Lawrence is profoundly committed to delivering successful projects of various sizes. This past year, he earned the prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP) certification with the aim of expanding his expertise and honing his abilities in project management, surpassing the industry's conventional standards. During his leisure time, Lawrence indulges in an active lifestyle, often accompanying his dog, Buddy, on hikes or engaging in paddleboarding activities in San Diego's bays. He is an active member of the Tenant Councils San Diego where he attends meetings and canvasses the community. Lawrence also finds creative expression in his passion for DJ'ing and producing ambient or eclectic EDM tracks.
